Susan studied biochemistry as an undergraduate at Harvard University. She received a PhD in molecular biology from Princeton University, where she worked with Michael Cole. Susan was a postdoctoral fellow with Judith Kimble at the Univ of Wisconsin-Madison/HHMI. She was the HA and Edna Benning Professor of Oncological Sciences at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City before moving to Harvard University in 2009. She relocated to the Biozentrum in 2019.
